Weekend Recap: Volume 8

Happy Month.

It's a new week.

This past weekend was the 4th of July. Thousands, including myself, chose not to celebrate a country that doesn’t represent freedom, equality and fair treatment for all.


Breonna Taylor still has not gotten justice.

While the country was split on whether to celebrate the holiday, the impact of the pandemic was still evident.


Hundreds of traditional 4th of July celebrations and firework displays were cancelled because of social distancing guidelines and concerns.


The steady increase in new cases of COVID-19 has continued to rock states and parts of the country.


Despite a looming second outbreak the world is still carrying on.

The NBA is set to kick off soon.


Oh and did you know that, Kanye is running for president?

Kanye West running for President

This past weekend on twitter, Chicago rapper Kanye West announced that he intends to enter the 2020 presidential race..


His tweet:

Although in some states it is too late, Kanye’s name can be placed on the ballots in some states by joining the race as an independent. Kanye has publicly acknowledged his friendship with President Trump in the past and has supported Trump's presidency by joining him at the White House. Because of his previous endorsements and antics, many view this antic as an attempt to take the vote from Joe Biden to favor President Trump. Kanye has already garnered support from millennials, particularly black millennials. Every vote counts. Every vote matters. Take it seriously.


Rest In Peace Nick Cordero

Broadway veteran Nick Cordero passed away at age 41 due to complications from the coronavirus this weekend. Cordero’s wife Amanda Kloots announced his death in a post writing:

God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth.

The actor battled the virus for more than 90 days in the hospital before passing. Thoughts and payers are with his wife and family.


#BoycottJimmyJohns

#BoycottJimmyJohns was trending after a video went viral of apparent Jimmy Johns employees mocking the lynching of black Americans with a noose. It has been reported that the founder of Jimmy Johns is a Trump donor. Research the businesses you support.

India’s the 3rd country most impacted by COVID

India has surpassed Russia as the third country still suffering from COVID-19. With the United States and Brazil, India is now apart of the top three reporting 24,248 new cases in one day.


2020-2021 Academic School Year

This ongoing pandemic has caused a lot of uncertainty and concern about the 2020-2021 academic school year. Universities, in particular, are struggling with whether to continue online instruction or to attempt in person instruction with safety guidelines. Ivy League schools and some HBCU’s have begin to roll out their academic plan for the year. This Monday, Harvard announced all courses forthcoming will be moved online, with tuition remaining the same. Princeton will allow their students on campus, one semester at a time. Most students have however chosen to remain remote. Many universities are still unsure of how to plan for the 2020-2021 school year, leaving college students on edge.
