New Music Friday

New music on Friday is a guarantee. The tradition continued this Friday with new music in Hip Hop and R&B. Meg The Stallion, Young Thug, Bryson Tiller, 21 Savage and others dropped new music.

After years of no new music, Bryson Tiller has finally dropped a new album. Tiler recently released the Deluxe version of Trapsoul, finally giving fans classic records like Self- Righteous and Rambo featuring the Weekend. Tiller’s new album t “Anniversary” is a completely new body. 10 songs with a feature with Champagne Papi.

The R&B vibes continued with new music from Sy Air Da Kid and Giveon. Sy Ari Da Kid released a new 8 song album called “3 to 5 Business Days” I became a fan of Sy after hearing her hit single “Body”

I love discovering new music. Every week, I make it my mission to discover at least one new artist. Recently, my timeline has been raving about “Giveon” so I finally checked him out since he dropped a new EP “When it’s all said & done” this weekend.

21 Savage & Metro Boomin are back making new music together. “Savage Mode 2” dropped on Friday, featuring Drake and Young Nudy. Young Thug, who also dropped a new song Friday with Meg The Stallion “Don’t Stop”, is also featured on the album.

YG released some new music, an album called “My Life 4hunnid.”

COVID-119 in the NFL

After watching the success the NBA had in managing the coronavirus, fans were optimistic about the NFL season. The season officially kicked off on September 10th.

Less than 3 weeks after the start of the season, the NFL is already having trouble containing the virus. New cases of the coronavirus are beginning to mount across the league.

After a week 3 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans, news broke that eight members of the Titans tested positive for the virus. Since then more positive cases have been found causing the week 4 matchup between the Titans- Steelers to be postponed until later in the season.

New England QB Cam Newton has also tested positive for the virus causing the Patriots-Chiefs matchup to be rescheduled for Monday night.

NBA Finals - Lakers lead 2-0

After the 2020 NBA season was paused in early March, there was a lot of uncertainty about the season resuming. NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced plans to restart the NBA season in late July. There was alot of cautious feelings about the proposed NBA bubble format, but it has turned out to be a success.

Now, months since the season officially started on July 30th, the 2020 NBA finals are officially underway. Game 1 of the Finals tipped off on Wednesday, September 30th between the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat.

The Miami Heat lead by head coach Erik Spoelstra and star Jimmy Butler has shocked the bubble. After signing with the Miami Heat after leaving the Philadelphia 76ers, Jimmy Buckets labeled the “bad teammate” has put on an outstanding offensive and defensive performances every game. The Miami Heat beat #1 seed Milwaukee Bucks and 3rd seed Boston Celtics before advancing to the finals against favorite LA Lakers.

An injury-riddled Game 1, led the Lakers to a 2-0 lead in the series. After another highlight-reel performance from Jimmy Buckets, the Heat took Game 3, making the series 2-1.

Breaking News

President Trump and First Lady have COVID-19

In an ironic twist, after months of calling the coronavirus a hoax, President Trump has now tested positive for COVID-19. On October 1st, shortly before 12 am, President Trump tweeted

Tonight,@FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

This news comes after several people close to the Trump campaign and administration tested positive for the virus days after the debate. During Tuesday’s night debate the Trump entourage, who entered without masks, were offered some by a Cleveland Clinic doctor but they were not seen wearing them during the debate.

Top advisor Hope Hicks was the first person close to Trump to test positive for the virus. Donald Trump Jr., Kellyanne Conway, and others have also tested positive. Shortly after the news broke, Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden announced that he and his wife Jill tested negative for the virus after being in close contact with Trump and his campaign at the presidential debate days before.

Voter Suppression in Texas

With less than 30 days before the election, Texas governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation that many view as a form of voter suppression.

On Thursday, October 1st, Governor Abbott made the decision to reduce the number of drop-off locations for mail-in ballots to one per county.

Voter rights groups like “Let America Vote” feel this move will make it harder for voters to participate in the election.

In a statement, the group said:

It is a shameful, blatant act of voter suppression that will disproportionately impact a large number of Black and Latinx voters in Texas' biggest counties.

Harris County, a Democratic county with the largest population, usually has 12 different locations but that number has been reduced to one. Many have expressed outrage with this move, including Texas government leaders. Texas’s Democratic party chair Gilberto Hinojosa, added that this is a "blatant voter suppression tactic" when speaking about the gesture by Governor Abbott.

The deadline to register has ended in some states.

Breonna Taylor grand jury audio tapes are released

The night of March 13th, 2020 has been a point of controversy, angst, and pain for months. Since Breonna’s death, thousands of marches, protests, petitions, and other measures have been introduced in the fight to bring her justice.

Brett Hankinson was charged with three counts of “wanton endangerment after a grand jury proceeding. No officers have been charged specifically for Breonna’s death.

Since the grand jury proceedings, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has released the audio recordings after being ordered by a judge. Jurors felt like Cameron was “deflecting blame” which caused them to push for the audio to be released. The audio does not include the specific instructions jurors were given, but jurors are heard questioning the officer’s recollection of the night in the audio.

COVID-19 update

President Trump testing positive for the coronavirus served as a reminder to thousands, that the virus is far from being gone. Despite the world continuing to push forward, new cases continue to surge across the world.

Countries like India are still battling the coronavirus, as the death toll has now passed 100,000. With more than 6.47 million cases recorded, India is set to pass the United States for the highest number of cases.

Infections in the United States are still surging. Numbers are looking similar to when the pandemic first started in the spring. 54,000 cases were reported on Friday, the highest one day total since August. States like New York who recorded record-breaking numbers early on in the pandemic are starting to roll back phases of their reopening after a new surge.
