Catching Up

After months of straight chaos and mayhem, things seemed to pipe down this weekend. The weekend wasn’t full of chaotic events, mostly shocking tragedies, unfortunately.

The tragic news of the deaths of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman and former Georgetown head coach and Hall of Famer John Thompon broke this weekend. Thousands mounted the loss of both legends in their respective fields.

As news broke of the death of Chadwick Boseman’s death, the Video Music Award’s premiered, with a tribute from host Keke Palmer, who dedicate the show to the late actor.

Entertainment and sports news held the headlines. With the NBA strike ending, all eyes were focused on the NBA Bubble.

New Music Friday

The tradition of new music Friday continued with new music from The Weeknd, Ty Dolla Sign, Nicki Minaj, Cordae, Roddy Ricch, Jaden Smith & others.

On Friday, Ty Dolla Sign the king of features, dropped a new song with Nicki Minaj titled “expensive.” Nicki Minaj recently announced she was expecting her first child.

  1. Rapper Cordae, who recently changed his name from YBN Cordae, released a new song with Roddy Ricch called “Gifted.”

  2. Weeks after the August Alsina and entanglements drama, Jaden Smith came out of the shadows, releasing a new project “CTV3”

  3. Russ and Kehlani dropped a single together “Take you back.” Kehlani’s deluxe album is set to release soon.

This week, my new artist discovery is a rapper/singer from North Carolina known as“Toosi” Up and coming musician Toosi, released a new song featuring R&B hitmaker Summer Walker. The song is called “Love Cycle”

California wildfires

Nearly two weeks after wildfires first broke out, firefighters are finally increasing their containment. On August 17th The Lighting Complex Fire began near the border California shares with Nevada.

The blaze burned nearly 400,000 acres, destroying 1,200 homes. Taking the lives of 12 people. While firefighters are making progress, thousands of acres still remain under fire. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire is 56% contained.

Video Music Awards

This weekend thousand tuned in for the first live awards show during the pandemic ara. The VMA’s were hosted by Keke Palmer. Keke Palmer is the first black woman in history to host the Video Music Awards. Props to her.

With the show kicking off two days after the death of Chadwick Boseman, who won best performance in a movie and best hero at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV awards, Palmer started the night by dedicating the show to Boseman.

Performances from The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande highlighted the show.

Breaking News

John Thomspon

On Sunday night, the basketball world mourned the loss of former Georgetown head coach John Thompson who passed at age 78. John Thompon was the first-ever black head coach to win an NCAA championship in 19984 leading the Hoyas to a title.

Chadwick Boseman

The tragedies of 2020 continued this weekend when the death of Black Panthers actor Chadwick Boseman was announced. Boseman passed Friday at the age of 43 after a 4 year battle with colon cancer.

The actor known for his roles in Blacdk Panther and 21 Bridges, kept his cancer diagnosis from the world as he filmed movies while going through chemotherapy and multiple surgeries.

Chadwick Boseman is the epitome of power and strength. Rest in power black panther.

United Airlines drops controversial fee

After listening to feedback from customers, United Airlines intends to drop its controversial ticket change fees. In a video posted on Sunday, CEO Scott Kirby says they’ve listened to customers and will drop their $200 fee to change tickets.

This change means customers flying standard or premium economy will be able to change their ticket free of charge. This move from United Airlines puts pressure on Delta and American Airlines to drop their similar $200 fees. Both airlines have remained adamant about keeping the fees, after the world’s top four major airlines, reportedly lost nearly$100 billion due to this pandemic

NBA Bubble

Since the start of the NBA playoffs on August 15th, the talent has been on display from several players across the league. Donovan Mitchell, Dame Lillard, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, and the Luka Donic to name a few.

With the first round of the playoffs wrapping up, most games are closeouts. As it stands today, 6 teams have advanced to the next round, while 4 teams are still battling it for the last two spots.

Last night, Nuggets Point Guard Jamal Murray put his talent on display for Game 6 dropping 50 points escaping elimination. The Utah Jazz had the opportunity to close out the series and advance to the next round but after a 50-piece from Jamal Murry, Game 7 will be played tomorrow. The winner advances to the next round.

The Los Angelas Clippers closed out their series versus the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. Winning the series 4-2 with 5 straight 30 point games from Kawhi Leonard.
