Daylight Savings

Daylight Savings ended on Sunday, November 1st at 2 am.

Like most people, I turned my clock back one hour. Essentially we gained one hour.

Although it gives us an extra hour to sleep, we also lose a lot of daylight time. The sun will now rise and set later.

By 6:00 pm in most cities, it will be dark.

COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 cases are still surging across the United States as we enter the month of November. 1,000 people died from Covid-19 on Thursday.

With the surge in new cases across the country, many states have begun to roll back phases of their reopening, imposing new restrictions.

In the Midwest which has been hard hit by COVID-19, Illinois’s governor Pritzker announced a ban on indoor dining and drinking in the city of Chicago starting November 4th. These new restrictions will only affect region 2 of the state which includes the counties of Rock Island, Henry, and Peoria.

With a vaccine unlikely to be unavailable before mid-2021 medical professionals fear the number of infections will only continue to surge as we enter flu season.

Global Pandemic

After experiencing a spike in new cases, Austria will go into a partial four-week lockdown starting on November 3rd. This four-week lockdown will include daily curfews from 8pm to 6am and the closing of bars and restaurants for dining in purposes.

Austria is not the only European country that has seen a surge in new cases.

France recently announced their second nationwide lockdown after recording a high of 50,000 new cases in a 24 hour period. All bars and restaurants will close but schools and factories will remain open.

Greece is also set to impose a new lockdown with restrictions due to a spike in new cases. Greek’s Prime Minister announced that face masks will be required on a national level, in addition to a nighttime curfew from midnight to 5am.

Nearly all of the country will resume lockdown on November 3rd. All bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms will be closed.

Germany, Italy and Portugal are among other countries that have also imposed similar lockdowns due to new coronavirus infections.

Typhoon Molave

At least 25 are dead and 40 are missing in Vietnam after torrential rain leads to massive flooding and landslides, caused by Typhoon Molave.

Before moving to Vietnam, Typhoon Molave hit the island of the Philippines killing 13 people. 13 people are still currently missing.

Typhoon Molave is said to be the strongest typhoon to hit the region in decades. At least 130 people have already died from the extreme flooding and landslides that have occurred in the last month.

A landslide in Vietnam on October 18th killed 20 military personnel, with 2 military personnel missing.

Thousands have are currently without electricity and basic necessities like freshwater.

According to the Vietnamese government, 56,000 homes have been damaged and thousands have been displaced from their homes.

For a country that had already been struggling to contain COVID-19, this typhoon couldn’t have hit at the worst time.
